Makeup Storage

Makeup Storage

I have never been able to keep my makeup tidy and orderly.  I have tried bathroom drawers, dresser drawers, I have tried an assortment of makeup bags and caboodles, I have tried just throwing it on the bathroom counter, but none of these methods have worked that well for me.

Until now……

I have recently started investing in the acrylic storage from Muji.  I have seen the various “beauty gurus” on YouTube with this set up and I was intrigued.  Then I looked it up online saw the price and was promptly unintrigued.

But then there was this one time, when we were on vacation in Kyoto, Japan……and Muji is cheaper there……I bought my first two pieces.  I purchased two of the large double drawers pieces.  When I got them home, placed them on my dresser and started filling them with cosmetics, I was instantly hooked.  I bought my next two pieces within a week of being back in Korea.  This time I bought the set with three shallow drawers, the only problem is that it did not stack the same way that the other two did; they do not fit together the same way.  In my typical fashion I had made the assumption that they would.  I still stack them but they are not “locked” together so some sliding occurs.  This is not enough to really bother me. I also bought the small shelf that holds my foundation, sponges, my crazy Tony Moly Golden Egg Primer and some powder.  And I bought three of the little containers for cotton swabs and cotton wool.

This system makes me so very happy.  Now I can actually see all of my products; I can use what I need and pop it back into it’s little spot in the little drawer to which it belongs.  The beauty of this method is palpable.  It has been four months and my stuff is still tidy.  I still feel the same thrill when I use these drawers.  Everything has its place, each drawer holds a category of makeup.  I am now using all my makeup and not forgetting what it is that I already own. This has been a problem for me in the past, hence the rather large collection of makeup.  I am really trying to use up as much as I can….there is no reason to have this much stuff, I have one face!!!!!

I just love the way it looks.  It is highly functional and yet esthetically pleasing.  How can you go wrong with that beautiful, minimal and clean Japanese elegance.  I am almost certain that the Japanese do not stack theirs to the ceiling and fill them with every cosmetic known to man…..but heyho, to each his own!

I bought this lipstick holder from amazon which I pop on top of my acrylic tower of beauty. I store my ridiculous amount of makeup brushes in these pretty (but old) candle holders from H&M Home. I separate them into

  • face brushes -foundation, powder, concealer and bronzer brushes.
  • face brushes-contour, blush and highlight brushes.
  • eye brushes-all the eye brushes.

This is pretty much all the makeup that I have and it all sits right in front of me asking to be used daily.  I still have some eyeshadow palettes and a few lipsticks that are hiding in a drawer waiting for some space to open up.  I want to really get the use out of my stuff and I feel like I am on the right track.

Thanks for visiting……

On a separate note, this is not a sponsored post…..all products were bought by me, all opinions belong to me!
